There is a exhibition by the Chinese artist Song Dong at Barbican Centre.
Impressive huge amount of collections. He collected basically everything. Totally ordinary object – everyday object – to extraordinary collection by him collecting. I don't think he actually collected them on purpose. In other words, he collected them because he had a kind of difficulties to throw away them I guess.
The objects he collected are no meaning to me – like trashes – however it has his – or his family's – memory and history perhaps.
At the exhibition I was thinking that I could even do it like this. It's just keep everything. I know it is difficult to do it. I need place to keep them and organize them clearly. But I kind of agree with him doing that and reason why he did that. Because I think his collection shows us sort of human behavior and instinct as well as his life and story. We may all agree that we all have that kind of instinct to collect something.
